Tramadol is a schedule IV drug whereas tapentadol is a schedule II drug and both are used for the management of moderate to severe pain. Both drugs inhibit the reuptake of norepinephrine roughly to the same level but tramadol inhibits serotonin reuptake 3 times more than tapentadol.
